Okra
Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is a warm-season annual in the Malvaceae family grown for its tender pods, often used in soups, stews, and savory dishes. Plants grow upright with sturdy stems and broad, heart-shaped leaves. Pods develop a few days after flowering and are best harvested at 2–4 inches long when bright green and slightly pliable. Frequent picking encourages continued production, and staking or cages can provide extra support.
