Latin Name: Allium Schoenoprasum 

Chives are hardy, low-maintenance perennials prized for their mild onion flavor and easy growth. Both the leaves and flowers are edible, making them a versatile addition to the kitchen and garden. Harvest when plants reach about 12 inches tall by cutting leaves at the base with clean shears, leaving some foliage behind to encourage regrowth. Chives prefer consistent moisture and benefit from regular trimming to maintain healthy growth. Cold-hardy and reliable, they can be overwintered indoors in containers and moved back outside in spring. Chives also make excellent companion plants for carrots, tomatoes, and cabbage, helping to naturally deter pests.
