Patchouli is a fragrant, bushy herb with rich green leaves that mature to a blue-green hue and clusters of delicate pale pink to light purple flowers. While highly valued for its aromatic foliage and essential oils, Patchouli is not considered an edible herb. Its leaves are prized for use in perfumery, aromatherapy, traditional wellness, and as a natural insect repellent. Thriving in warm, humid conditions with moist, well-draining soil, Patchouli benefits from regular pinching to encourage a full, compact shape. Harvest mature leaves as their fragrance deepens with age or drying. In Zones 9 and below, Patchouli is best grown in containers, making it easy to bring indoors before frost for year-round enjoyment.
