Cayenne peppers grow on upright, bushy plants with slender leaves that form a natural canopy to help shield the fruit. The peppers begin green and mature to bright red or yellow when ready to harvest. With a heat range of 30,000–50,000 Scoville Heat Units, they deliver a bold kick—hotter than jalapeños yet milder than habaneros. For best performance, plant in rich, well-drained soil and provide consistent sunlight. Proper spacing, steady watering, and good airflow support healthy growth and help reduce the risk of pests and disease. Companion herbs such as basil, dill, oregano, rosemary, and catnip can also naturally discourage unwanted insects.
